Oxford To The Perch

Gen & Emelia’s Day: From Oxford’s Charm to the Riverside Simplicity of The Perch
Gen & Emelia’s day began near the iconic Bridge of Sighs in Oxford. What started as a misty morning transformed into a clear, blue-sky day by the time we gathered at the gates, awaiting entry to the historic Convocation House. With its fan-vaulted ceiling and intricately carved woodwork, including the fixed chapel-style benches, the room is an absolute beauty!
The ceremony itself was deeply emotional. Families from both sides of the Atlantic finally came together to witness Gen and Emelia marry in such a stunning setting, hardly anyone could hold back tears as Gen entered the room and began her walk down the aisle.
Oxford to The Perch is easily one of my favourite setups for a wedding. There’s something very unique and special about getting married, then taking a boat down the Thames with all your loved ones on a summer’s day. The boat ride offers a chance for everyone to take in the riverside scenery, with anticipation building as you approach The Perch, one of my favourite wedding venues in Oxfordshire!
When the boat docks, Emily (who runs the show with incredible energy and efficiency) organises the guests into two lines for the newlyweds’ confetti run, one of the best bits of the day. It’s a perfect way to kick off the drinks reception. Honestly, I wish I had an Emily at every wedding!
The Perch is ideal for couples looking to relax with their guests, enjoy exceptional hospitality, and indulge in top-tier food. Having been lucky enough to have experienced wedding food at plenty of venues across southern England, the Perch is definitley up there!
From a photography perspective, resisting the temptation to talk about the food for too long, The Perch offers plenty of great opportunities for photos. The fairy-light walkway leading down to the river is always a highlight. I love taking couples for a walk along the riverside, a small break away from their guests or the ‘riff-raff’ as some couples call them is very much needed after a full on start to the day. I want my couples to feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible in this moment, I keep it simple and easy with the result being a collection of photos that couples can look back on and know that it’s all real and not fake!
